This week we will meet only twice; on Tuesday to take the test for Chapter 5, and on Thursday to take the AMC 10 or 12 (depending on the student's current grade level). Next week we will begin a short unit on trigonometric identities.

Last week we were pushed a bit off schedule due to the strange schedule and 2-hour delay on Tuesday. We will try to get back on track this week by finishing with the Law of Cosines and Heron's formula (which we started on Friday) and we will then finish the chapter with application problems. This will bring us to the test for Chapter 5, which is scheduled for next Tuesday.
This week we are taking the quiz on inverse trigonometric functions and right triangle trigonometry on Tuesday. We will then continue into our exploration of oblique triangle trigonometry with the Law of Cosines and Heron's formula.
Welcome back! The snow persists in keeping this class out of school! Hopefully we will be uninterrupted for the weeks to come and will be able to get back into a rhythm. We will have the test on review material (based on the Study Island assignment) on Tuesday. We will then continue with the trigonometry topics we left off with the week before the snow. We will be working with the law of sines and the law of cosines. A quiz on those topics will follow on Friday (although that quiz will be a quarter 3 grade).
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful break. For those that didn't, hopefully the extra couple of days last week was enough to recharge! This week we will begin a new unit on trigonometry. I will also be having students begin revisiting review topics as homework by utilizing Study Island. I will be giving a review test based on these exercises next week before the close of the quarter (so that the test will count as a quarter 2 grade). More detailed information will be given in class.
We will only meet as a class on Tuesday this week since the winter break begins on Thursday. We will just be taking the test on our introduction to trigonometric functions unit. I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful, and much needed, winter break. See you all in the new year!
Your homework assignment for the weekend is the following exercises from 4.2 {starting on page 411: 36, 38, 61, 63} and from 4.3 {starting on page 433: 11, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 26, 29, 30, 34, 35, 38, 39}.
If you already remember all of this material from math 3 and would like to work ahead, the following exercises (also from 4.3) will be part of the homework from Tuesday: 42, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51. Here are the two resources we used to visualize the graphs of the trigonometric functions: http://www.interactive-maths.com/graphs-of-trig-functions-ggb.html http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/unit-circle.html Here is the one that I referenced for the transformations of trigonometric functions. It is also a great source of alternate notes with worked out examples (which we will cover for the more complicated transformations on Tuesday)! http://www.onlinemathlearning.com/trigonometric-graphs.html This week we will be defining the trigonometric functions, reviewing how to evaluate trigonometric functions (without a calculator), and exploring some of the properties of trigonometric functions. We will have a quiz on these topics and the arc length and radian measures of angles topics this Friday.
Those that were not able to take the extension portion of the logarithms quiz will be able to take that on Tuesday during class. For the rest of the time we will return to our review of angles so that we will be able to move forward with topics of trigonometry after the break.
Based on the results of the last quiz (on exponential and logarithmic functions) we need to review those topics. We will use this week to revisit logarithmic and exponential functions properties, graphs, as well as simplifying expressions and solving equations involving logarithms. We will quiz on these topics on Friday and that quiz will be averaged with the previous quiz. Students taking the Pre ACT on Friday will take the quiz on Tuesday next week.
