Hello everyone! My name is Alexander Murray and I teach high school level math and middle school level Project Lead the Way science at Triangle Math and Science Academy. I have just started my first year teaching at the high school and middle school levels, but I have also taught at the upper elementary level and college level. I am very excited to be teaching here at TMSA and I look forward to a great year!
Background
I am originally from a small rural town in northern New York where I was educated at home until I started my college education. I earned my high school diploma and associates degree in math and science from my local community college, North Country Community College, before transferring to the State University of New York at Potsdam where I earned a BA in mathematics with a second major in middle/secondary mathematics education and my MA in mathematics. I returned to my home town to teach at the community college that I graduated from for a few years. I moved to North Carolina in January of this year and started teaching at TMSA later that month.
Teaching Philosophy
I teach because I believe that all knowledge and reasoning skills are valuable and that the development of these things are essential to our enjoyment of life. I have found a personal enjoyment in my study of mathematics. I strongly believe that anyone and everyone can, and should, learn how to think mathematically regardless of any other inclination that person may have.
