We are finally able to start our next project: designing a puzzle cube! We will begin by defining the problem and exploring the possible designs available. Then students will work in pairs to make a prototypes and sketch the pieces. Moving forward we will be exploring the use of computer software to create 3D models of our prototypes before we actually build a working puzzle cube.

This week we will be finishing our work on design sketching before we turn our attention to measurement systems and tools. Students will review measurement conversions and proper use of rulers, as well as learn how to use a new tool; a dial caliper. Once students have learned to measure accurately and precisely we will use those skills to dimension the multi-view sketches we have been working on.
After completing our reflections of the design process that we discussed as a result of our instant design challenge we will begin building one of the fundamental skills of engineering and design - drawing. In particular, we will learn how to draw isometric sketches as well as the basics of a multi-view sketch with dimensioning.
